Why do so many people think it’s not worth looking for a new job in the summer months?

There’s a reason our motto at ExecuNet is, “Always be Ready!”

When you’re an executive, you must be ready to storytell your value and be interviewed for your next great opportunity at any moment. That means your resume is updated and you’ve already worked with a coach, so you can seize the moment.

When something might be right for you, you need to be able to talk about the problems you solve and the value you bring at a moment’s notice to make a connection and draw interest. There may not even be an actual opening yet, but you knowing how to talk about the ways you create value could spark an idea in someone’s mind, and that leads to something. It could be today, next week, or down the road.

Job search at the executive level is so much bigger than seeing what’s posted. Companies always have value gaps. The need for value doesn’t stop because of changes in the economy, nor does it wait for summer to end.

There is no need to let the market tide or cadence of the seasons deflect you from your goals. If you know and can articulate your value, you can go after your Next Great Next independent of the economy or time of year.

So, I’m asking:

  • What value gap do you fill?
  • How can you provide that value in a way that you will find meaningful and personally fulfilling?

Those answers are what you should target as your Next Great Next.
