How Do I Locate Recruiters?

I just read your advice on ExecuNet and have a question. I am employed but seeking another position. How do I locate recruiters so I can communicate with them about positions they are trying to fill? My expertise is Marketing, Innovation, and Market Development all focused on Company Growth.

This is an excellent question. The best way to find recruiters that focus on your area of specialty is to do a keyword search in ExecuNet for marketing roles. Even if you do not see an immediate match, you will see which recruiters are working on marketing roles. You can then reach out to them, introducing yourself, and offer to send them a copy of your resume, along with bullet points on the types of roles that you would be interested in hearing about. Recruiters love when you offer to help with their searches, so make sure you offer to do that and are prepared to do so if they call on you. If you help them they will be much more likely to want to help you. In addition to doing that, I would also suggest making a point to reach out to those recruiters on LinkedIn to be able to stay on their radar screen. Liking, commenting and sharing posts is always appreciated, and keeps your name top-of-mind.

Establishing a working relationship with a recruiter who specializes in your industry has many benefits, which increase exponentially when you are currently employed but wanting to explore other options. Having someone to serve as your representative rather than contacting companies directly is an excellent way to protect your identity and thereby dramatically lowering the potential of having your current employer becoming aware of your job search.
