Executive Job Search Myth Buster Yep, time for another Executive Job Search Myth Buster.

Myth:

“My experience on my résumé will win me the job.”

Truth: The person who wins the job is the one who’s known for doing something really well, the one who has an area of expertise and a reputation for being great at it. It’s your ability to market how amazing you are and what you have to offer that gets you hired. You can’t assume a recruiter or hiring manager will figure it all out on her own by interpreting your work and related experience the way you feel she should. happy-green-dragon My Advice: All résumés are designed to impress the reader with the candidate’s experience; so unless you can market yourself, you remain a part of the crowd, rather than one who stands apart from the crowd. If you can market your gifts and track record on your résumé, your LinkedIn profile, and to your network of contacts, then you can control your career destiny.

You probably have to let someone help you with all of this. Look, would you cut your own hair? I didn’t think so. A good résumé paints a picture of your future, not your past. A good career adviser will not only help you paint that picture, but show you how to address employment gaps, avoid age bias, reposition yourself to shift industries and careers, and even coach you how to talk about yourself in a way that will allow you to turn an interview into an offer. And don’t forget: As a VIP member, you can get an honest, expert opinion of your résumé at no cost to you. If you haven’t taken us up on this offer, how can you deny this to yourself? I hope you’re blessed with many opportunities today.
