We are well into fall and that means a major time in the job market is here. Traditionally, there is huge hiring push as companies look to use up budgeted money and finish the year on a high note before the calendar flips.
This year, there’s been chatter that some companies are holding off on hiring due to uncertainty about the political landscape and how that will affect the economy going forward. Essentially, some companies want to see what will happen in the presidential election. This is true for some companies and very understandable.
But understand, jobs are still being filled right now… by the candidates who spent the summer getting prepared.
And those companies who have decided to slow down hiring and monitor the political landscape will be hungry to have problem solvers in the first quarter of 2025. They will be hiring the candidates who spent this fall getting prepared.
Will you be ready?
I mean really ready. Being ready to land an executive-level job is way more involved and challenging than it used to be. Gone are the days of sharing an impressive resume and talking about your job history. Every candidate has an impressive resume and can impress when in the room. These days, candidates who land the offers can do that plus explain how they can solve the interviewers’ specific problems… all while providing data to support their claims.
There is a real art to doing this. You’ve got to blend the experience, data, and company’s need in a way that connects with the interviewer. This takes a prepared storyteller.
Now’s the time to become that type of candidate.
Some companies may have a wait-and-see attitude ‒ plenty do not ‒ we understand why, but candidates cannot afford to adopt this same attitude. There’s a huge opportunity lost cost for candidates who wait for the political landscape to settle. Those people will be behind the candidates who take this time to get coached up on weaving a Value Story that incorporates their experience, supporting data, and the problems they can solve for employers.
There’s an art to this, and art takes time.
Put the work in now ‒ your career will thank you for it later.
It’s more important than ever to be prepared to tell your Value Story in a meaningful way, regardless of what level of interest you have in a job search at this moment.
The one thing you can control in this climate of change is your own level of preparedness.
