It’s never too late to reach your goals.

You may think you’ve missed your chance to reach your goals at some point in your career, but if you can still work you can still get to where you want to be.

Look at the National Championship UCONN Huskies. They brought in four transfer students this year. After a first-round exit in last year’s tournament, Coach Dan Hurley realized he needed some skilled outside shooters to round out his team and create a complementary synergy with the big men he already had shooting from up close. Two of them, Tristen Newton and Joey Calcaterra, became vital to the team and what would end up being a National Championship season.

Sure, these are very young men, but in terms of their college basketball careers they were seasoned veterans playing out their last year of college eligibility. They took advantage of the new 5th-year transfer rule to seek out their Next Great Next, one last year to play college ball after graduation and win a National Championship. They found a strong program that needed someone with their specific skills to get to the next level: a National Championship.

Does this sound familiar?

It should. UCONN traded up in talent. They identified a need and went looking for it exactly what companies do.

The players were looking for what would be next for them and listened when schools came calling exactly what executives should do.

If you have been following the career concepts I have been sharing in my Notes, you can see the similarities. The players completed their four years at their first school and had one last year to play college ball, so they considered their options. They knew they still had value in the college game and identified where they would fit in to make a difference. They were open to options and listening to possibilities.

It would have been easier for them to say, “I’ve graduated. Time to try and go pro or get a regular job.” They may have needed another year to improve their pro possibilities, or maybe they felt they had unfinished business in college ball. Whatever their exact reasons may be doesn’t matter. The point is, they looked at the options and took their shot.

The concepts are the same… we’re just playing a different game.

We have great coaches like Dan Hurley on our team. Connect with one of them to win your championship!
