Some sobering news: Only 36% of recruiters are “confident” or “very confident” that the executive hiring market will get better in the next six months, according to an ExecuNet poll of recruiters.
This signals that competition will be even tighter for roles at the top of the org chart to start 2024. Employers will likely execute a calculated approach to hiring, with many focusing on recruiting and retaining the business-critical skills needed to drive growth.
You need to make yourself be seen as an obvious one of a kind, instead of one of many. To begin learning how to do this, look over your career… what are little hero journey stories you can tell?
The Ticket to Happiness for Both Employers and You?
It’s simple: don’t talk about positions you’ve held. Instead, talk about the problems you’ve solved.
Boldly articulate your value via your resume, your online presence, and throughout interviews… with the prevailing theme being the problems you’ve solved. At interviews, give them proof-of-concept examples of how you’ve performed and solved problems they (your potential employer) would hire you to solve.
People don’t hire/recommend you for a senior-level role, because you’re kind of good at a few things. They do it because you’re exceptional at something.
You’ve got to make it clear in your interactions with them, your resume, and LinkedIn profile exactly what you’re exceptional at. That’s your value story. That’s what gets you remembered, wanted, and hired.
Find your value story and you will find your Next Great Next.
